One Smart Mom

Today while shopping at Target, Emily got fed up with sitting in the cart. For the sake of buying myself a few more minutes to browse at swimsuits, I tore open a bag of chips and let her go to town. As we were walking to the checkout line, I hear a woman with a loud, disgusted voice exclaim, "UGH, SICK! What kind of mother lets her child eat like that in a store?!" I turned around to see a lady huffing, glaring, and rolling her eyes at me with utter distaste. I took notice of her own toddler, who was flailing, screaming, and spitting. I then glanced down at a quiet and content Emily, who smiled up at me with a mouth full of orange Dorito dust. Looking back at the woman, I smile and say, "I guess a very SMART mom." My reply was not received well, which pleased me immensely.

  1. I am so glad you said something :) It amazes me that people say stuff like that ... but I am glad you're SMART enough to say something back. So funny!!

  2. You go girlfriend. I find that people often give me the same looks when McKay is eating chips in the grocery store. I am taking notes from you and will be prepared with a witty comment when I receive another dirty look. I wish I could have been there.

  3. I am so proud of you! I usually think of a snappy comeback about an hour after the event.

  4. That's hilarious. I seriously can't believe some people. I would never dare say something like that to someone. Nacho cheese Doritos must run in the family. :)

  6. Way to go, Becky! I will do anything to get through the store, including feeding my children all manner of food. It's all for the sake of survival.

  7. You do crack me up! Why don't people mind their own business? Shopping trips with small children are to be survived...whatever that involves. I'd take an orange face over spitting any day!
